Lukas Podolski is in far-reaching negotiations with Górnik Zabrze, Fabrizio Romano reports. The 36-year-old striker is currently transfer-free after his contract with Turkey’s Antalyaspor expired last week. Podolski previously said it was a dream to one day play for Górnik Zabrze, the club he and his family have always been huge fans of.

Podolski was born in Gliwice, Poland, but he grew up in Germany. Yet he has always remained a fan of Gornik Zabrze, the club from the region where his family comes from. “It is my dream to decide on a career at Górnik,” can be read on Podolski’s own website. “Górnik is the club I support in Poland. Every year when I visit family in Upper Silesia, I love to visit friends and acquaintances for a good conversation.”

It now seems that Podolski’s dream may come true. The 130-time German international is without a club after an extensive football trip. After wearing the shirt of 1.FC Köln, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Internazionale, Galatasaray and Vissel Kobe, he joined Antalyaspor in January 2020. In Turkish service, Podolski has scored 7 goals and 5 assists in 47 official games in the past year and a half. Now that his contract there has expired, he looks set to make at least one more transfer.

Podolski already canceled a return to 1.FC Köln via Twitter last week. According to Romano, in addition to Górnik Zabrze, Mexican Queretaro, Brazilian Fortaleza and several clubs from Turkey and Qatar are also interested in Podolski’s services. According to the transfer expert, however, there would already be extensive negotiations between the experienced striker and the Polish club. Górnik Zabrze – fourteen-time champion of Poland and last season’s number ten in the Ekstraklasa – is currently waiting for Podolski’s answer.
