Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s return to the Dutch amateur fields may have a tail end. The 38-year-old striker played in the game of the sixth team of HC’03 on Sunday and that raises questions about SV DCS chairman René van Leeuwen. He has turned to the KNVB with the question whether Huntelaar has applied for an international transfer. If this is not the case, measures will be taken, the union reports.

DCS also recently recruited a former professional football player with 33-year-old Damir Rovcanin. The striker played hundreds of matches in Turkey and Bosnia & Herzegovina for various clubs. Rovcanin has not played an official game since July 2019 and he has been living in Arnhem for several years. However, the international transfer did not go through, because Rovcanin did not comply with the rules.

The Gelderlander writes that he should not have played football for at least three years. In addition, he was only signed up by DCS after the transfer window. Rovcanin is therefore only allowed to take action for DCS from 4 January 2022 from the KNVB. He has to watch the first half of the season from the sidelines. Van Leeuwen was therefore surprised when Huntelaar, ex-player of Schalke 04, did come into action at HC’03.

The chairman of DCS wonders what the difference is between Huntelaar and Rovcanin. He therefore reported to the KNVB and received a quick answer. “We are investigating whether an international transfer has been requested by this amateur club (HC’03) for player Huntelaar. If the rules have not been followed, the club will be informed and measures will be taken.”

Huntelaar played with his amateur association from Drempt against the tenth team of Concordia Wehl on Sunday. “He has deliberately stayed out of publicity lately and has silently said goodbye to professional football,” said chairman and teammate Mart de Kruif of HC’03. Region8. “He just wants to play football now. The club is a warm bath. He doesn’t need anything, he can do anything.” The chairman confirmed that the 76-time international has been registered with HC’03 since last week.
