There is a lot to do in Spain about Gerard Pique. The currently injured center defender is on holiday with his family in Cantabria in northern Spain to surf there. During one of the surf trips, Piqué was photographed against his will by an employee of the newspaper El Diario Montanes. The mandekker even had an altercation with the photographer, or so it sounds from Spain.

El Diario Montanes also reports that Piqué, who reportedly felt hounded, and his entourage did everything they could with the photographer in question to have the photo removed. The now 34-year-old defender did not succeed in that mission, because the photos of his surfing holiday were simply printed by the Santander-based newspaper. It is not yet known whether Piqué and his wife Shakira will press charges against the local Spanish newspaper.

It seems that, given his calf injury, Pique would rather not be in the newspaper while on holiday. The veteran had to miss last week’s home game with Getafe (2-1) and it is not yet known whether he will be fit in time for the first game of Barcelona after the international match. The team of coach Ronald Koeman will start the group stage of the Champions League against Bayern Munich on September 14 at the Camp Nou.

It is also not yet clear whether Pique will rejoin Barcelona evening training on Monday. Koeman then does not have all the internationals that his club has supplied during this international period. The experienced central defender agreed to a temporary salary cut prior to this season, giving Barcelona the opportunity to sign Memphis Depay.
