Jordi Alba was injured on Tuesday evening at Barcelona in the 0-3 lost Champions League match against Bayern Munich. In Spain there is incomprehension about the left back playing, as he was far from fit. The wing defender was missing at the final training and, according to Catalunya Radio suffered from diarrhea on Monday evening and still vomited, while he also had a fever of 38.5 degrees.

Despite Alba not being fit, Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman decided to let Alba appear at the kick-off. Fifteen minutes before the end, Alba was replaced due to a hamstring injury. Barcelona reports that an investigation is yet to be conducted to determine the exact severity of the injury. Koeman replaced the Spanish international with 17-year-old Alejandor Baldé, who made his official debut. Alba then took a tired place on the bench. A photo of a visibly exhausted Alba has been making the rounds on social media. The photo is often shared on Twitter and people are out of and incomprehension about the left leg’s involvement.

Koeman opted for three center defenders on Tuesday evening: Ronald Aruajo, Eric García and Gerard Pique. Sergi Roberto (right) and Alba (left) lined up as the fullbacks in the 3-5-2 system. The trainer’s system was not successful. Barcelona didn’t come in handy against Bayern and didn’t even score a single shot on goal. The German superpower was too strong 0-3 with a goal from Thomas Müller and two from Robert Lewandowski. Next Monday, Barcelona will return to action at the Camp Nou; Granada then comes to visit. Alba is not expected to play. It is currently unknown how long he has been disabled.
