Riots broke out after Feyenoord's late victory at SC Heerenveen (2-3). Supporters of the Frisians rushed towards the away section, looking for a confrontation with the Feyenoord fans. In the commotion that arose, a child was hit on the head by a lighter, as can be seen from a photo that is quickly circulating on X.

A sports photographer from NES images speaks on the platform about 'the saddest football day in my career'. “Two mothers with their children completely upset and a little one injured in the head thanks to riots at Heerenveen – Feyenoord.”

The child was taken from the stands crying with a bleeding wound just above the eye. After treatment by doctors, the victim is doing well under the circumstances, SC Heerenveen said Omrop Friesland.

It is not clear which group threw the lighter. In any case, the riot police entered the stadium to stop the home fans who wanted to go to the away section. Stewards also helped.

Feyenoord also received support from the home sections in the Abe Lenstra Stadium. That led to anger among some Heerenveen fans who were also there.
