Philippe Sandler can’t wait to get started at Feyenoord. The centre-back, who will soon be celebrating his 25th birthday, wants to finally get through a period without injuries. Rental periods at Anderlecht and Troyes were overshadowed by the necessary injuries. Sandler would love to come into action on March 20 for Feyenoord, which will play against the Ajax of his good friend Brian Brobbey that day.

“That would be very nice. Sounds good,” said the hopeful Sandler in an interview with The Telegraph. It remains to be seen whether Brobbey will be fit again by then. The Ajax attacker recently suffered a tear in the inner tube of his knee against PSV (1-2 victory) and will only be available again for trainer Erik ten Hag sometime in March. Brobbey was just making a strong comeback at Ajax after a disappointing six months at RB Leipzig.

Brian Brobbey sustained the knee injury in the top match against PSV.

Sandler hopes to have already made playing time at Feyenoord before the clash with Ajax in Amsterdam. However, the defender, who left Manchester City with a transfer-free status, does not want to rush anything in the coming period. “We are putting together a program, so I don’t think we should go too fast. That would be unwise. But as a footballer you want to play as quickly as possible. That never goes completely together. Don’t go too fast, but also certainly not too calm.”

The interim signing of Feyenoord continues to look to the future with confidence, despite the various setbacks in the field of injuries. “I am still the same player, I have only become physically stronger in Manchester. I also only had contact injuries, except for my hamstring injury from last September,” emphasizes the player who returned to the Netherlands. “I got it because I played another game too soon.”
