Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden would, according to the Daily Mail Be ‘furious’ because of a tweet sent from his account after the Champions League quarter-final with Borussia Dortmund (1-2 win). The administrator of his account posted a tweet with the words’@Kmbappe are you ready?‘, referring to the meeting between City and Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinal of the billion dollar. The tweet has since been deleted and, according to the tabloid, Foden is now considering a break with the company that provides its online communication.

After a 2-1 victory at home, the team of manager Josep Guardiola won with a 1-2 visit to Dortmund on Wednesday evening. Foden signed for the winning goal and can prepare with City for the semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, which turned out to be too strong for Bayern Munich in two matches. The semi-finals will be played on April 27 and May 4. Right after the Citizens qualified for the last four in the Champions League, the relevant tweet appeared on Foden’s account.

The 20-year-old midfielder and his advocates are, according to the tabloid, anything but happy with the tone of the tweet, as it could be interpreted as challenging Mbappé. The Daily Mail writes that Foden has asked for the tweet to be removed immediately. However, the post was already circulating on Twitter and Foden was asked online from various sides why he turned to Mbappé. Foden’s representatives are now reportedly considering a break with the company that runs the midfielder’s social media channel.

Former footballer Gary Neville caught up with the online commotion and responded on Twitter. The former Manchester United defender calls on professional footballers to manage their own social media accounts. “I already discussed players who have their accounts managed by companies a few weeks ago. Guests, manage your own accounts! Your independent thoughts and authenticity are at stake. It’s your vote and nobody else’s, ”said Neville.

It is not the first time that a Manchester City player is at odds with a company that provides online communication. Raheem Sterling previously broke with Purple PR after they leaked news that he would be captain of England in his 50th international match in 2019. The company issued a press release saying he would wear the strap in the Nations League match against the Netherlands in June 2019. National coach Gareth Southgate was disappointed and was told by Sterling that the news had come out without his knowledge.
