Jürgen Klopp will not sit on the bench on Sunday when Liverpool visit Chelsea. The Reds announce through the official channels that the German manager has tested positive for the corona virus and therefore has to be quarantined. His assistant Pepijn Lijnders will therefore lead the Liverpool team at Stamford Bridge, where the kick-off is on Sunday afternoon at 5.30 pm.

Klopp announced on Friday at the press conference in the run-up to the game with Chelsea that three players and a number of staff members had taken a positive corona test. The German manager refused to give the names of the players “until a proper PCR test had been done”, though Alisson and Roberto Firmino were absent from training on Thursday. Officially, however, it is still unclear which players Liverpool should miss during the visit to Chelsea.

The away game against Chelsea will therefore in any case pass by Klopp. Liverpool writes that he is struggling with mild complaints and has been quarantined. Sunday’s test round did not reveal any new corona cases other than the three mentioned by Klopp on Friday, although three other staff members did take a positive test. Lijnders has not tested positive and will therefore lead the Liverpool eleven during the away game against Chelsea.
