Antonio Rüdiger caused a stir on Tuesday during the match between Germany and France at the European Championship. The Defender of the Mannschaft apparently nibbled at Paul Pogba’s back. The midfielder from France was not pleased, but referee Carlos del Cerro Grande from Spain nor the VAR saw any reason to intervene.

“He nibbled at me a bit, yes. I felt that,” said Pogba after the game at the Allianz Arena. “I told the referee and he made a decision. I will not beg or cry for yellow or red cards in such actions. Rüdiger didn’t get a card and that’s fine. It belongs to the past.”

Pogba therefore hopes that the unpunished moment will end for Rüdiger. “Everyone has been able to see the images, but for me it is now finished,” emphasized the midfielder of lesson Bleus. “I just want to be busy playing football now and don’t want him to be suspended by this moment. We hugged each other at the end of the game. It’s done for me.”

“We have to win the duels instead of nibbling at the opponent,” analyst-cum-ex-international Per Mertesacker said on television. In the previous meeting between France and Germany, Rüdiger put his shoe on Benjamin Pavard’s neck. Rüdiger was also recently in the news because Kevin De Bruyne suffered a broken eye socket and a broken nose after a duel with Rüdiger in the Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City.
