Feyenoord made a ‘painful mistake’ on Thursday afternoon with a message about Marouan Azarkan. The Rotterdammers reported in a message on the official website that the nineteen-year-old wing attacker would make the switch to Excelsior on a rental basis. Feyenoord Transfermarkt reports, however, that this message was posted too early and that there is ‘nothing official’ for the time being.

The message on the Feyenoord website states that Azarkan will play for Excelsior until the end of the season. “Marouan is a talented player who needs to make many minutes,” technical director Frank Arnesen is quoted as saying. “The opportunities for him at Feyenoord are limited this year, so it’s good that he can work at Excelsior. We have had good experiences with youth players who have been loaned out there and have come back stronger, so we are confident that this will also be the case for Marouan.”

However, Feyenoord appears to have posted the message too early and by mistake, as is also apparent from the fact that it is not shared via social media and cannot be found on the homepage of the website. Painful mistake on the Feyenoord website, where the reporting about Marouan Azarkan to Excelsior was posted too early. Feyenoord Transfermarkt, which initially shared the message on Feyenoord’s website via Twitter. “Correct on behalf of FTM: Excelsior is interested, it is almost done – but there are several options. Choice still has to be made; nothing official.”

Azarkan has been part of Feyenoord’s youth academy since 2012. In September 2019, the wing attacker made his debut in the main squad, by coming in as a substitute against ADO Den Haag. A year later he played his second official game for Feyenoord, but he didn’t get any further for the time being. He spent the past six months on a rental basis at NAC Breda, for whom he played eleven official matches. Azarkan is not in Arne Slot’s plans for the time being, because he was not part of the selection in the Conference League games.
