Ajax has reached an oral agreement with the fifteen-year-old talent Gabriel Misehouy, reports The Telegraph Friday. According to the newspaper, there is great relief at De Toekomst, because the agreement prevents one of the greatest talents of the youth academy from leaving abroad again. The clubs were in line for the two-legged midfielder.
After Ajax saw talented striker Julian Rijkhoff sign Borussia Dortmund on his sixteenth birthday, football affairs director Marc Overmars was committed to averting such a scenario and keeping Misehouy at home. According to the newspaper, the fifteen-year-old midfielder had the clubs to choose. Barcelona, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester City attempted to take over.
Besides the interest of the European top, there was still a danger lurking for Ajax. Misehouy’s father has an English residence permit, so the Brexit restrictions do not apply to him. Nevertheless, Ajax has managed to keep the attacking midfielder. The newspaper reports that Ajax has been shaken up by the transfer-free departure of Brian Brobbey to Leipzig. Misehouy is expected to sign a three-year contract shortly.
However, the negotiations did not go without a struggle. At Ajax, the youth work with fixed salary scales, but Overmars had to offer more to prevent talent from moving abroad. Misehouy, who celebrates his eighteenth birthday on July 18 and plays in Ajax Under-17, and the agents of ICM / Stellar have finally agreed to a ‘generous offer’.
