Marc Overmars has announced that he is not prepared to let Edson Álvarez and Antony leave Ajax. The director of football affairs responds in conversation with the General Newspaper on the possible interest of Stade Rennes and Bayern Munich in the Mexican and Brazilian respectively. “We will not let them go”, says Overmars firmly.

Mid-July reported The Telegraph that Stade Rennes would have submitted an offer to Ajax for Álvarez, but according to Overmars that is not the case. According to reports, the hyper-ambitious French club made an offer, which incidentally was ‘immediately brushed aside’, of eighteen million euros for the 23-year-old defensive midfielder. At the same time, among other things, Sky Deutschland that Bayern would be interested in Antony’s services, although the €32 million asking price would be a stumbling block for of the Rekordmeister.

On Tuesday, Overmars seems to put an end to all rumors about Álvarez. “We have not received a concrete offer, but I do believe that Stade Rennes is seriously interested. We can be very clear about that: at the moment a departure from him is a no go. He has since become an important player. So he can’t leave us,” explains the director. Álvarez is currently in action on behalf of Mexico at the Gold Cup and is therefore not present at Ajax’s training camp in Austria.

Just like his teammate, Antony is also an important absentee during the preparation of Ajax. The winger plays with Brazil at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Overmars also leaves no doubt about the near future of the 21-year-old attacker. “He has only been with us for one season and can still grow a lot. When boys have played here for three or four years, we take them further. No, we will not let Antony go,” said Overmars.
