Erik ten Hag and Marc Overmars see themselves both still working at Ajax next season. The trainer and director of football affairs have both been noticed by foreign clubs in recent years, but say they are open to a longer stay in Amsterdam before the cup final on Sunday. They have a ‘kind of commitment’ to continue together, they confirm to Hans Kraay junior van ESPN.

Overmars is asked by the journalist whether Arsenal, the club for which he played as a player, has reported for him. “No, they have not reported,” assures the director. “Sometimes clubs sign up for Erik ten Hag, and that also applies to me. But I am very happy, we are in the final again. When asked whether he will stay at Ajax for another year, Overmars responds by saying that ‘that could just be done’.

“And Erik ten Hag? We spoke. If I were to stay, I think Erik will stay. That might be a kind of commitment”, says Overmars. Ten Hag confirms that there is indeed some kind of agreement between him and Overmars to stay together at Ajax. “That’s right. We are a duo. We get along well and that is very important for putting together the selection and leading the team.”

Does this mean that there is a good chance that Ten Hag will soon sign? “The contract will still run next year,” he says, insinuating that there is no urgency to renew his contract yet. Ten Hag’s commitment will expire after the 2021/22 season. “We are focusing on the finals, now the cup final and then the finals of the season. We are heading towards the title and we have to focus on that. Not on other issues. These are peripheral issues, that will come later.”
