Vitesse started the new season in the Eredivisie with a victory. The team of the new coach Thomas Letsch won 0-1 against RKC Waalwijk in the Mandemakers Stadium on Sunday. Oussama Darfalou gained confidence in front of the Arnhem team and was not ashamed of it: he scored the only goal of the match just before half-time.

Although Darfalou became the match winner, Ousmane Tannane was the most dangerous man on the field. The attacking midfielder took RKC’s goal twice in the first ten minutes, but Kostas Lamprou did not have to intervene both times. Moments later, the Greek goalkeeper of RKC Waalwijk was saved by teammate Vurnon Anita: he prevented a goal from Darfalou with his head on the goal line.

Halfway through the first half, Loïs Openda Vitesse could still take the lead, but the young Belgian shot over after a mistake by Lamprou. Vitesse was clearly the parent and managed to open the score deservedly in the injury time of the first half. Matus Bero put Darfalou beautifully in the penalty area of RKC, after which the Algerian attacker had a nice marker in the house face to face with Lamprou: 0-1.

After the break, the first chance was for RKC, but Anas Tahiri ran into Remko Pasveer. Shortly afterwards, Finn Stokkers, who was picked up by RKC at NAC Breda this week, scored just before the point. The home team therefore developed some pressure on Vitesse’s goal, but could not continue the short offensive at the beginning of the second half. Vitesse, in turn, did not manage to throw the game into the slot, but nonetheless walked off the field with a victory.
