FC Utrecht has broken open and extended the expiring contract of Othmane Boussaid, the number six of the Eredivisie announced on Monday afternoon via the official channels. The club had the option to extend the attacker’s commitment by one year, but has given him a contract until mid-2024. Boussaid conquered a basic place in the team of trainer René Hake in the course of this season.

The 21-year-old Boussaid came over from the bankrupt Lierse SK in the summer of 2018. He played nineteen league matches in his debut season, was unable to convince the club and was then rented out to NAC Breda for a year. In preparation for the current season, he rejoined Utrecht. In the first months he was not always assured of a basic place and he also played for Young FC Utrecht in the Kitchen Champion Division. However, in the past five matches, against Fortuna Sittard, ADO Den Haag, Feyenoord, Ajax and FC Twente, he played from the kick-off.

Belgium’s youth international could choose to return to his home country. In January reported Football International that there was interest from Belgium and he now confirms that. However, his choice fell on a longer stay near Utrecht. “The club has a lot of confidence in me. I had to seize this opportunity (on a new contract, ed.) And I did. Belgian clubs were interested, but I can get the most out of myself here, here in the Netherlands. How we play now really suits me. That’s why I want to stay with FC Utrecht longer. ” Boussaid has played matches this season as a left winger, right winger, central midfielder and attacking midfielder.
