Jose Mourinho was officially presented as the new AS Roma trainer on Thursday. At the subsequent press conference, the Portuguese elector takes the same stand by saying that he is a victim of his own success as a coach in recent years. Mourinho believes that the image that other people paint about him is often completely wrong.

“I am a victim of my own performance,” Mourinho said on Thursday afternoon during the AS Roma press meeting. “If I didn’t win as a coach, it often meant the end of the world for other people. At Manchester United it was a disaster to win three trophies. What is great for me is a disaster for others,” he said. Mourinho, who still considers himself a top trainer despite being fired from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year.

“With Chelsea I became champion, I won three trophies with Manchester United and reached the EFL Cup final with Tottenham. What is a disaster for me, others have never managed to achieve in their lives. It is also true that that is my fault Mourinho concludes with a sense of cynicism. The trainer wants to deliver sporting achievements in Rome and puts life in the Italian capital in second place. “I’m not here for the city. It’s fantastic and wonderful here, but this isn’t a holiday for me.”

Mourinho starts a tough job at AS Roma, which finished in a disappointing seventh place last season. “29 points behind the champion and 16 points behind the number four, we can’t ignore that”, sighs the successor of Paulo Fonseca in the Stadio Olimpico. “We have to find an explanation for this, so that we can build for the future. Of course that takes time. Time was also the magic word when I spoke to the board for the very first time. I do hope that we can take steps quickly That is also in my nature. I would like to transfer that mentality to the entire club,” said the ambitious Mourinho.
