Mark Diemers is part of Feyenoord’s match selection for the first time this season, the Rotterdam club announced on Wednesday morning. The midfielder had been struggling with a knee injury since the summer and for that reason has not yet played. In total, the selection of Feyenoord consists of 22 players for the return in the Conference League against 1. FC Union Berlin.

Diemers no longer enjoyed the full confidence of Dick Advocaat towards the end of last season and then disappeared even more into the background when he injured his knee. The last time the midfielder made minutes on behalf of Feyenoord was at the end of July in the friendly against PAOK. Diemers seemed to be on his way to the exit at Feyenoord, but had to put an end to a transfer due to his injury. Arne Slot indicated last summer that he did not see a prominent role for the midfielder this season.

It is expected that Slot against Union will not tinker very much with his basic team. Alireza Jahanbakhsh returned to the base against Sparta Rotterdam and it is expected that he can also count on a base place in the German capital. Feyenoord leads Group E of the Conference League with seven points from three matches. Maccabi Haifa follows with four points, while Slavia Prague and Union have collected three points so far.
