Stefan de Vrij will appear at the kick-off on Tuesday evening in the Champions League match between Internazionale and Barcelona. Unlike Denzel Dumfries, the center defender does get the confidence of Simone Inzaghi, the trainer of i Nerazzurri. Former Ajax player André Onana is on target. Xavi starts at Barcelona as is known without Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay, who stayed behind in Spain due to injuries. The duel at the Giuseppe Meazza will start at 9 p.m.

Internazionale is not doing well in competition. The last two matches against Udinese and AS Roma were lost 3-1 and 1-2 respectively. Dumfries was allowed to start in both games, while De Vrij was on the bench. Now the roles are reversed. The 59-time international is the most central man in a three-man defence, which also consists of captain Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni. Matteo Darmian is the rightmost midfielder in Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system, replacing Dumfries.

Xavi sets up his strongest possible attack on the visitors. Ousmane Dembélé, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha will have to make it difficult for De Vrij and co. In the absence of De Jong (although the Dutchman is no longer assured of a base place), Pedri, Sergio Busquets and Gavi form the midfield. Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique and Alejandro Balde kicked off against Real Mallorca on Saturday, but they are now replaced in defense by Marcos Alonso, Eric García and Sergi Roberto.

The stakes of the duel in the Giuseppe Meazza are in all likelihood the second place in Group C. Leader Bayern Munich is currently sitting on roses against Viktoria Plzen and probably comes on nine points from three duels. Internazionale and Barcelona both only managed to beat the Czechs and are therefore on three points out of two. However, Barcelona are doing slightly better than Inter in goal difference: 5-3 compared to 2-2.
