Willem van Hanegem had expected more decisiveness from Jochem Kamphuis on Sunday. The referee wielded the whistle in the Eredivisie match between Sparta Rotterdam and Ajax (0-1); a match in which the visitors were soon faced with ten men. “Because Nicolás Tagliafico came flying in like a bull again. That Jochem Kamphuis dared to draw red for that, I thought it was brave”, Van Hanegem acknowledged.

“That rarely happens to Ajax”, insinuates Van Hanegem on Monday in his column in the newspaper Van Hanegem. Algemeen Dagblad. Tagliafico tried to prevent that Mohamed Rayhi could only reach André Onana’s goal. He hit the ball with his hand, after which both players crashed. Kamphuis immediately drew the red card and that decision led to a lot of misunderstanding among the players of Ajax.

However, Hanegem had expected more from Kamphuis. “I saw the same Kamphuis constantly pointing at his watch when time was being stretched. Everything would be added. Onana is a great goalkeeper, but he has been irritating me for a while now”, the former footballer sighs in the newspaper. “All that time stalling and all those substitutions and then just four minutes, that was cowardly of Kamphuis.”

“If that referee had wanted to do something for football, he would have calculated at least double the injury time. Then you show that you want to get rid of those annoying goalkeepers who are just lying on the ground, don’t tackle balls for a goal kick, slow down runs until the end of the game. Hup, eight or nine minutes, it has to be over with that gland”, emphasizes the Curve.
