Manchester United retain coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The vice-champion of England announced on Saturday afternoon that Solskjaer has signed a new contract until mid-2024, with the option of an extra season. His previous contract expired in the summer of 2022. According to the Daily Mirror Solskjaer will have approximately 29.2 million euros left on his new contract.

Solskjaer was appointed in December 2018 to succeed the fired Jose Mourinho. When he arrived, Manchester United was in sixth place and that is where the club eventually finished. In the following seasons, a third and second place in the competition followed. Solskjaer has not yet won top prizes as a manager of Manchester United, as the final of the Europa League this year was lost to Villarreal after penalties. Since his arrival, Manchester United have taken a total of 180 points in the Premier League, spread over 97 games.

Only Liverpool (217 points from 96 games) and Manchester City (221 points from 97 games) have been more successful in the competition since Solskjaer took office. “Ole and his staff have worked undisturbed to lay the foundation for long-term success,” said Vice-President Ed Woodward’s choice to continue with Solskjaer. “The results of that have become increasingly clear over the past two seasons. We look forward to further developing our good team.”

“Everyone knows how much I feel for this club,” Solskjaer, who played for Manchester United for 11 seasons, responds to his contract extension. “I am happy to sign a new contract. These are good times for Manchester United. We have built a good squad with a good balance of young and experienced players, all of whom have the drive to achieve success. I work with a fantastic staff and we are ready to take the next step. Manchester United want to win the absolute top trophies and that is what we are aiming for.”
