Armando Obispo and Mauro Júnior played minutes for the first time in a long time in a PSV game on Wednesday afternoon. The two defenders last played in an official match for their club in March, after which they had to watch for a long time due to serious knee problems. The unremarkable private practice match at De Herdgang ended 0-2 for Schalke 04, the number 16 of the 2. Bundesliga.

Trainer Peter Bosz obviously did not have the necessary (youth) internationals at his disposal due to the international period. Joël Drommel stood under the crossbar. The defense was formed by Shurandy Sambo, Obispo, Sven van der Plas and Mauro. Obispo and Mauro participated for 75 minutes with the Eindhoven team.

Patrick van Aanholt was number 6 in midfield, which was further supplemented by Mylian Jimenez and number 10 Jordy Bawuah. Onesime Zimuangana, Jesper Uneken and Yorbe Vertessen formed the attack of the Eindhoven team. At Schalke, former PSV player Timo Baumgartl was central in the defense, while Steven van der Sloot was at right back.

The fact that it was a practice match was clearly visible in the first half. The pace was slow and chances were barely created. On the PSV side it was clear that the players are not used to playing together, while Schalke also disappointed.

PSV performed slightly better in the second half, although this time opportunities were not forthcoming for a long time. For example, Van Aanholt brought the ball dangerously in front of the goal from a corner kick, but none of his teammates were sharp enough to anticipate this in time.

After more than an hour of play, Schalke finally broke the ban. Keke Topp made a nice step and got the ball back from fellow striker Simon Terrode. Topp then played back to Terrode, who stayed cool and found the far corner with a low slider: 0-1.

Five minutes later, PSV had the opportunity to equalize. After a nice combination between Vertessen and Van Aanholt, Bawuah came face to face with Schalke goalie Justin Heekeren. However, the attacker shot disappointingly wide.

There was suddenly no shortage of good opportunities for PSV, which was presented with another huge opportunity a few minutes after Bawuah’s giant chance. The ball shot through to the second post. where Vertessen enjoyed all the space and time to finish. However, the Belgian shot too hard and saw his effort go over the top of the crossbar.

Sambo also got a shooting chance. The right back’s attempt from the edge of sixteen flew a meter over the German goal. On the other hand, Schalke had another huge chance. Topp only had to pass the ball wide to Terrode, but the ball never ended up there thanks to an excellent defensive intervention by substitute Brian van den Boogaard.

Even in the final phase, PSV proved unable to do anything about the deficit. In fact, Schalke made it 0-2 in injury time. After a good action on the back line, the ball ended up with Topp, who passed Drommel with a low slide and thus put the final score on the board.
