The matches of the Dutch national team will also be shown on the NOS for the next four years, the broadcaster officially announced on Tuesday after successful negotiations with UEFA. This means that, among other things, the European Championship in 2028 in Ireland and the United Kingdom will be shown to football fans on the open network.

In addition, the NOS will broadcast all of the Oranje matches for the next four years, including the matches in the Nations League. In that tournament, the Netherlands will face Bosnia and Herzegovina (Eindhoven) on 7 September. Three days later, the meeting with EC organiser Germany will follow in Amsterdam.

Gert-Jaap Hoekman, editor-in-chief of NOS Sport, is extremely proud of the new deal for the coming years. “Major sporting events such as the European Football Championship bring people together,” can be read on the website of the NOS.

“Watching football together and talking about it is something that young and old enjoy; it connects and strengthens the bond between generations. That is an important goal of the public broadcaster,” says Hoekman.

All European and World Championships in which the Netherlands participated have been broadcast by NOS. Most matches of the Dutch national team at a major tournament attract an audience of millions, especially if the Dutch team gets far.

The semi-final between the Netherlands and Argentina at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is still the most watched television program of all time. At the time, no less than 9.1 million people saw the Netherlands stranded in the semi-final after penalties.
