Three players of the Dutch national team are on edge and cannot afford another yellow card in the quarter finals against Austria or Turkey. Denzel Dumfries received a yellow card in the won match against Romania (0-3), while Joey Veerman and Jerdy Schouten already received yellow in the group stage.

The Dutch national team is in the quarter finals of the European Championship. The team of national coach Ronald Koeman played a convincing match and was much stronger than Romania: 0-3. Cody Gakpo was the absolute tastemaker with a goal and assist, substitute Donyell Malen was also important with two goals.

In the quarter finals (Saturday, at 21:00) the Dutch team will face the winner of the duel between Austria and Turkey, which will be played later on Tuesday evening. Malen, Dumfries, Veerman and Schouten certainly cannot receive a yellow card, because they would be suspended for a possible semi-final.

Players receive a one-match suspension for two yellow cards at the European Championship. The cards are only cancelled after the quarter-finals.

Dumfries will certainly be annoyed by his yellow card, which he received for wasting time in the 78th minute of play of the match against Romania. The right wing defender held the ball in his hand for too long before the throw-in.

If the Netherlands manages to survive the quarter finals, they will face England or Switzerland in the semi-finals.
