LaLiga has been unable to find evidence of any racist expression from Juan Cala towards Mouctar Diakhaby. The organizer of Spain’s highest league has studied all the available evidence, but cannot conclude that Cala was guilty of racism during Sunday night’s match between Cádiz and Valencia (2-1).

The game between Cádiz and Valencia in LaLiga was stopped after half an hour on Sunday evening, after the defender had indicated to his teammates that he had been treated racially. Cala would negro de mierda shouted, which can be roughly translated as ‘shit negro’. An audio recording has since surfaced in which the statement can be heard, but LaLiga chairman Javier Tebas said earlier this week that Cala is not the one to be heard on it. He indicated that there will be ‘a record of what Cala has said and another record of all that has been said’, giving the impression that the audible statement negro de mierda may have been done by someone else.

The Valencia players decided to leave the field after the incident and went to the dressing room together with the emotional Diakhaby. The defender wanted his teammates to finish the game, but did not appear on the field himself. He posted a short video on Twitter Tuesday morning in which he claimed for negro de mierda later that morning, Cala denied the allegation in a press conference. He said there is’ no racism in Spanish football ‘, that’ everything that is happening now is pure demagoguery ‘and threatened legal action against Valencia, which then released a statement entitled:’ JUAN CALA, WE DON’T BELIEVE YOU ‘.

LaLiga has not only examined all the image and sound material, but also engaged a company that specializes in lip reading. According to that company, it cannot be established that Cala made racist statements. He would have said things like ‘shit’, ‘leave me alone’ and ‘sorry, don’t get mad,’ but racism couldn’t be proven. The clubs concerned and the relevant authorities in Spain have received the report from LaLiga. In the statement, the competition organizer emphasizes to condemn ‘racism in all its forms’ and to continue to fight against any form of it. However, it seems that Cala is going free.
