Paris Saint-Germain is in talks with Qatar Airways to become the club’s new shirt sponsor, reports L’Equipe† The airline has to take over from Accor, which wants to stop the shirt sponsorship. Qatar Airways has been linked as a sponsor to the Parisians since 2020. Qatar Airways has to dig deep into their pockets to get on the PSG shirt.

Accor is currently featured on PSG’s shirts. The French hotel group has been featured on the club’s shirts since 2019, but has reportedly already announced that it wants to stop sponsoring the shirt. Accor still wants to remain linked as a sponsor to the leader in Ligue 1, but in a different form for a considerably lower amount than it pays now. According to the French newspaper, the collaboration with Accor will yield between sixty and seventy million euros.

The employer of, among others, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé wants to receive the same amount from a possible new shirt sponsor. Qatar Airways could fill the gap Accor will leave behind. Qatar Airways is owned by the state of Qatar, which is also where the owners of PSG come from. Since 2011, the Parisians have been owned by Qatar Sports Investments, a Qatari investment company led by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, which aims to promote the sports and entertainment sector in Qatar.

Qatar Airways has already been the shirt sponsor of several football clubs. For example, the airline previously featured on the shirts of Barcelona, AS Roma, Boca Juniors, Al-Ahli and KAS Eupen. When the shirt sponsorship actually takes place, it will not be the first time that an airline can be found on the PSG shirt. Fly Emirates had been on the club’s shirt for no less than twelve years since 2006, until PSG switched to a more lucrative sponsorship contract with current shirt sponsor Accor.
