The expansion of De Toekomst has come a step closer, Ajax announces through the official channels. The team from Amsterdam want to expand the training complex with a number of new training fields and a mini stadium, where Jong Ajax and the women’s team can play their home matches. Now Ajax has reached an agreement with the municipality of Amsterdam about the exclusive development right of parking lot P2.

This means that Ajax can expand the training complex on the site where parking lot P2 is currently located. The site is exclusively reserved for Ajax and will be issued to the club no later than 2026 on the basis of perpetual surrendered leasehold. Before that time, the Amsterdammers will work out a plan ‘that meets the conditions laid down in the agreement with the municipality of Amsterdam’. It is the intention that the municipality of Amsterdam will have realized parking facilities elsewhere before that time.

“With this exclusivity agreement, Ajax is taking a new step. Our goal is to structurally link up with the European top and our youth academy and the progression of youth to the first team plays an important role in this. In addition, women’s football is also growing and that development will continue,” says general director Edwin van der Sar on the Ajax website. “The extra land gives us the opportunity to expand the facilities of all our teams.”

“The planned mini stadium that we want to realize at P2 offers a suitable stage for the Ajax Women, Young Ajax, the international matches of our youth and some duels of our first team”, emphasizes Van der Sar. Marieke van Doorninck, Alderman for Spatial Development in Amsterdam, adds: “Ajax can make concrete plans for the training complex and the municipality of Amsterdam, together with the other land owners, will have room for the development of a new urban district with space for homes and facilities.”
