NEC is about to present two new center defenders, according to Gelderland media. The people of Nijmegen are already around with Iván Márquez, a 27-year-old Spaniard who is transfer-free after he left the Polish Cracovia. NEC will also hire twenty-year-old Rodrigo Guth (photo) from Atalanta.

Márquez spent much of his career in B-teams of Spanish clubs, such as Málaga and Osasuna. The 1.91 meter long defender has played in the Polish league for the last three years: first two seasons with Korona Kielce and the last year with Cracovia. At the latter club, Márquez made nineteen official appearances last season. Last week he had his contract terminated and that is how he came into the picture at NEC.

With Guth, NEC is going to bring in a talented defender. The Brazilian youth international, who also holds a German passport, was plucked from Brazil by Atalanta four years ago. His debut in the main force is yet to come. Last season, Guth was loaned to Pescara, which plays in the Serie B. The mandekker played 25 official games there.

NEC urgently needs defensive reinforcements, after Rens van Eijden suffered a serious knee injury during training. The 33-year-old defender tore his cruciate ligament and is sidelined for months. With Kevin Bukusi and Cas Odenthal, there were therefore only two fit center defenders in the selection, who are both twenty years old. NEC already brought in Lasse Schöne, Ilias Bronkhorst, Mikkel Dueland (rent), Magnus Matsson and Danny Vukovic this summer.
