Napoli recaptured the top spot in Serie A from AC Milan on Thursday evening. After last week’s loss of points at AS Roma (0-0), Luciano Spalletti’s team managed to easily put aside Bologna with 3-0. Napoli thus comes to 28 points after 10 games, equaling the best start to the season ever. At Bologna, Mitchell Dijks, Jerdy Schouten and Sydney van Hooijdonk started on the reserve bench; Dijks and Van Hooijdonk were eventually allowed to participate for another ten minutes.
After only five minutes of play, Lorenzo Insigne cut the ball beautifully towards the far post. Hirving Lozano only had to put his head against it, but couldn’t. In the 17th minute it was hit. After his red card from last week, Napoli coach Spalletti looked on from the stands with a grin as Fabián Ruiz curled the leather in the left intersection. It marked the ninth goal from outside the box for Ruiz since the start of the 2019/20 season; at the same time, he didn’t make any within that zone. Bologna did appeal for hands, which Lozano would have made during the surrender, but this was brushed aside by arbiter Marco Serra.

As if the Gods were tempted, they were right i Rossoblu themselves who made hands a little later. It was Gary Medel who touched the ball in a forbidden way: penalty kick. Insigne was allowed to build and did not fail for the 2-0. Gli Azzurri rested comfortably and continued to walk fifteen minutes after the rest. Striker Victor Osimhen was knocked down by Ibrahima Mbaye, which Serra initially saw nothing in. However, a VAR check turned out differently: another penalty for the Neapolitans. Insigne sent the ball exactly the same way as the previous one and again Lukasz Skorupski had to fish.
The only counter to the away team was an attempt by Riccardo Orsolini, who shot miles wide in the cover. Napoli was able to finish the game calmly and even got a great chance via Osimhen to increase the score even further. However, that didn’t happen; Napoli does nestle above competitor AC Milan, who with the same number of points but a less goal difference (plus nineteen versus plus fourteen) will have the chance again on Sunday to take the lead in Serie A.
