José Mourinho had to leave the dug-out of AS Roma early again on Sunday afternoon. In injury time of the match against AC Monza (1-0 win), the Portuguese coach made a provocative gesture, after which he was allowed to leave.

The score remained 0-0 in the Italian capital for a long time, until Stephan El Shaarawy got the ball at his feet in the ninetieth minute and then hit a hard, low shot to make the final score 1-0.

After El Shaarawy’s winning goal, Mourinho made himself known. The former coach of Real Madrid and Internazionale, among others, made a crying gesture with his hands towards the Monza bench. That earned him a red print.

Afterwards, Mourinho said in an interview that the gesture was related to an incident from last season. “I didn’t say anything offensive. Last season some people with no experience said bad things about us. I’m honest. They didn’t deserve the win today.”

It is not the first time that Mourinho has been sent off the bench with a red card. Last season he was presented with no fewer than three (!) red cards. Sunday’s red card is his first of the current football season. As a result, he will miss the match against Inter.

Roma climbs to sixth place thanks to the victory at Monza. Monza remains tenth in Serie A, although that club can still be overtaken by Lecce, which will play against Udinese on Monday evening.
