Luka Tunjic is well on his way to Fortuna Sittard, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday via X. The midfielder, who is only eighteen years old, is a free agent after his recent departure from Bundesliga newcomer Holstein Kiel. Fortuna still has to officially confirm Tunjic's arrival.

The 1.83 meter tall Tunjic was born on November 19, 2005 in Hamburg. His roots are however in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. For the latter country he has already played three youth internationals in the past two years.

Tunjic joined the youth academy of Holstein Kiel in mid-2020. The young midfielder made it to more than forty youth matches, but a debut in the first team did not happen. Tunjic chooses an adventure outside Germany with a transfer-free status.

Romano also reports that Tunjic is part of the stable of former German international Michael Ballack. The former midfielder played for Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea, among others, and is now working as an agent.

Ballack was present at Fortuna's home match against sc Heerenveen in early February of this year. He watched that Eredivisie match together with Isitan Gün, the chairman of the Limburg club.

According to Romano, Gün has ensured that Tunjic can be admired in the Fortuna shirt next season. The midfielder is given the time to develop and improve under trainer Danny Buijs.

If Tunjic does decide to join Fortuna, his official debut will probably take place on 11 August. The Limburgers will open the new Eredivisie season that day by visiting Go Ahead Eagles.
