The Leo Messi Foundation won its lawsuit against ABC on Thursday, it reports Onda Cero. The foundation, run by Lionel Messi, was accused by the Madrid daily of fraud, embezzlement and money laundering, but has been cleared of all those cases.

ABC journalist Javier Chicote claimed in a 2017 publication that Messi’s charity kept “ more than $ 10 million ” of sponsorship revenue out of its bookkeeping, preventing those funds from benefiting its intended children’s social projects. Income in both Barcelona and Rosario, Messi’s hometown, would have been undeclared and used for ‘private activities’.

Messi’s foundation then filed a lawsuit against ABC and journalist Chicote in particular, and was upheld. The foundation has been awarded compensation of 7,142 euros. In addition, the newspaper must pay all costs for the legal proceedings. Messi’s institution has announced that the amount will be donated to Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona.

ABC was previously negative in the news on Thursday. Salvador Sostres, a journalist for the right-wing newspaper, compared Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati for his crackdown on Ferencváros to “a black street vendor running from the police.” It caused a stir in Spain: teammate Antoine Griezmann hit the newspaper hard on Twitter, while Barcelona is considering legal action.
