It was restless on Wednesday evening around the duel in the TOTO KNVB Cup between FC Twente and Feyenoord (2-1). Members of the hard core of the home team disguised in balaclavas held a so-called ‘hit & run’ action, during which they threw preliminary work through the gates of the Grolsch Veste and into the parking lot in front of the stadium. Police have arrested three people TC Tubantia.

Before the game, FC Twente supporters set off fireworks from outside the stadium. According to the regional newspaper, an area in the immediate vicinity of the stadium was cordoned off during the police action, including searches of cars. Several boxes of heavy fireworks were found during that search. To restore peace, the riot police and police dogs were deployed, among other things. A police spokesman speaks of a group of thirty people. Their names are noted. They can face a fine next week.

In the end, the police arrested three supporters. One of them was bitten by a police dog during the arrest. The cup match between Twente and Feyenoord turned out to be a true thriller. The team from Rotterdam had the upper hand and took the lead shortly after the break via Cyriel Dessers, but conceded the equalizer ten minutes before the end via Giovanni Troupée. Things went wrong for coach Arne Slot’s team in extra time, when Manfred Ugalde shot FC Twente to the eighth finals.

It is not the first time that there has been unrest around a football stadium. Recently, things went wrong at Heracles Almelo, SC Cambuur and AZ. Due to the new corona measures, supporters are not welcome in the stadiums until January 14. The Classic of next Sunday will also be completed without an audience. Initially, the corona measures in response to the fourth wave were to expire next Saturday evening (December 18), but that was extended by outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte until mid-January.
