PSV can look forward to a capital injection of fifty million euros due to the expansion of the so-called partner fund and a new mortgage on the stadium. General director Toon Gerbrands already hinted that this could be directly invested in the group of players next summer. Joep Schreuder advises PSV to ‘have a coffee’ with Marc Overmars, director of football affairs at Ajax.

“Maybe they should have a coffee with Marc Overmars, see how the management of Ajax has done it,” says Schreuder in conversation with the NOS. “There they broke new ground a while ago, with higher salaries, with toppers like Dusan Tadic and Daley Blind, and then the poison of the Latin American players. A mix of top players, poison and young talents ensure a title with policy. But where are the South Americans now? ”

“Types with a mentality like Martínez or Álvarez can use them well. PSV needs a Guardado 2.0! They are now all sweet, nice guys in midfield ”, says the NOS reporter. Aad de Mos agrees that PSV has ‘had a lucky hand with Mexican players nine times out of ten’, apart from Érick Gutiérrez. At the same time, the retired coach warns against ‘turbulent times’ and that PSV must have ‘all bingos’ with the current budget. So no types like Maxi Romero, Érick Gutiérrez or Timo Baumgartl. They don’t yield anything. ”

Denzel Dumfries and Donyell Malen are nominated to leave, while De Mos wonders whether Cody Gakpo, Mario Götze and Philipp Max can be kept. He states that PSV will therefore have to be creative. “Because actually 50 million is nothing of course. Sébastien Haller alone cost 22 million. I would use my network and my own eyes to get players who will strengthen the skeleton that Schmidt has built. Then you don’t necessarily need five or six players. ”
