Roger Schmidt wishes Denzel Dumfries the best at Internazionale. The PSV trainer says at the press conference for the league match against Heracles Almelo on Friday afternoon that he is happy for his pupil, who is expected to undergo a medical examination on Friday. Schmidt reiterates his desire to strengthen the squad in the closing weeks of the transfer market, although the arrival of Lorenzo Insigne seems unrealistic to him.

Dumfries will leave for an amount of reportedly 12.5 million euros, plus 2.5 to 3 million euros in bonuses. “I am happy for him, because he wanted to go there,” Schmidt responds to the departure of Dumfries, who was not used in the preparation and in the preliminary round matches of the Champions League. “I already knew in the summer that he would leave, so it is not a big surprise. He has found a big club that plays in the Champions League, so I am happy for him. He did well at PSV last season as captain. I wish him the best.”

Schmidt knows that PSV is assured of European football until the winter break and therefore needs a strong, wide selection. “Our selection can still be strengthened. If we want to achieve our goals, we need reinforcements. If you want to play in the Champions League with a young team, but also go for the league title and the cup, you have a very good selection. It makes a lot of difference whether you play European football, and which tournament. We want to have more top players and we are working on that.”

“We know what we need internally. We want to realize a few transfers,” said Schmidt, who responds with a laugh to the rumor that PSV is interested in Napoli’s Insignia. “I don’t know where that rumor comes from. He’s a very good player, but I don’t think he’s a PSV player. This is the first time I hear it, so maybe I’ll be surprised when I return to De Herdgang, but I can’t imagine.”
