With the transfer deadline approaching its end, a number of players are desperately looking for a new club. Someone who seems almost certain to leave is Mohamed Ihattaren. The PSV midfielder is at odds with trainer Roger Schmidt and has flirted openly with other clubs several times. Former teammate Lars Unnerstall, who made the switch from PSV to FC Twente this summer, foresees a difficult future for Ihattaren at PSV.

Unnerstall acknowledges that Ihattaren wasn’t the only one who had adjustment issues under Schmidt. “There were more boys who had to get used to,” the goalkeeper tells Football International. “But oh well, Mo. Mo is Mo. If you sit and talk to him like that, he really is a top guest. He’s a really good football player too. When he had that ball, I was sometimes really enjoying it. But attacking is not everything in it modern football. He still has to learn that. If he succeeds, he will play soon know-I-where. Then he can get this far. But you can still play football so well. If the coach says: “We’re going to play like this” and you if it doesn’t, you don’t play. And then it might be better to find another club.”

Ihattaren has been kicked out of the A-selection several times by PSV and is now training separately from the group. “You could immediately read it in Mo during training,” Unnerstall continues. “Does he feel like it, or should he have stayed inside? That’s not good. Someone like Mario Götze is much more professional in that. He also sometimes has a bad day. Mario also became a father and also had bad nights. “The least you can do in training is to do work. Don’t think, just run. But that might be a bit easier for Germans than for the Dutch.”

Unnerstall is not surprised that PSV has been running flawlessly to date. The people from Eindhoven are on course to advance to the group stage of the Champions League and also came unscathed from the first competition match with Heracles Almelo (0-2). “I expected it to happen, but not so late,” said the German goalie. “It is a pity that we were not at a comparable level halfway through last season. But apparently a few other players were still needed. Last season a few players were unable or unwilling to bring what Roger wants. Now PSV is ready. They play really well, pooh. Nice to see.”
