Maurice Steijn asks again for reinforcements after the painful defeat against FC Augsburg (3-1). Ajax’s trainer is satisfied with the field play that his team showed at times, but is disappointed with the individual mistakes that led to goals against. “I’m worried about the way we get goals against,” says Steijn AjaxTV.

Ajax went down in Augsburg due to individual mistakes by Gerónimo Rulli in particular, who made a huge blunder with the first goal against and looked bad with the second. Augsburg’s third goal was also caused by gunfire in the back of Ajax. For example, Kenneth Taylor just gave the ball away in the build-up. “These are just personal mistakes of people who have to get out,” said Steijn.

Ajax’s trainer also pays attention to the positive. “I do think that after a tough training camp we have shown ourselves reasonably today. We dominated large phases today, created many more chances than the opponent, much more possession and we forced the opponent to make mistakes. It is just a Bundesliga club “Only, this is a game of scoring goals and not giving goals away. In my opinion, we just give away three goals and you only score one. Then you get such a match. I am sick of it.”

Ajax is working hard on reinforcements in the background, but they are still not in. It is especially difficult in the back, Steijn outlines. “If you saw today how we played the last ten minutes, with Benjamin Tahirovic (a midfielder, ed.) in the center back and a left back (Anass Salah-Eddine, ed.) on the right”, says Football International on the mouth of Steijn. “That is unworthy of Ajax. I don’t want to complain, because we just had a good week of training. The boys worked hard, but in the end we just lack quality.”

It was also doom and gloom against Anderlecht (3-0 loss) last week. “This is comparable to against Anderlecht”, says Steijn. “We also created many more chances there. If you don’t make such open chances, you hope that things will go better in the competition, but you also worry why you conceded the goals so easily, of course, because in all three situations there is nothing wrong and you should have been well ahead.”
