Not only the players of Manchester United have made themselves heard on social media after the announcement of Cristiano Ronaldo’s return at Old Trafford. The football players of Juventus, including Matthijs de Ligt, also came up with nice words. “It was an honor to be on the field with you,” emphasizes the defender of the Dutch national team.

“As far as I’m concerned you are the perfect example for every player. You show that you can always get better as a football player if you keep working hard and are never satisfied with what you have already achieved,” De Ligt summed up. “I hope you will show many more beautiful things, I know you are not ready yet. Good luck, Cris.”

In the 2018/19 season, De Ligt played with Ajax in the Champions League against Ronaldo’s Juventus. A year later they played together for the top club from Turin. In total, the 22-year-old Dutchman and the 36-year-old Portuguese were on the field together in 68 games.

Ronaldo was a big supporter of De Ligt’s arrival in Turin. After the final of the Nations League in the summer of 2019, the Portuguese told the then Ajax defender that he had to come to Juventus. Not much later, the transfer of approximately seventy million euros was a fact.
