Matthijs de Ligt was injured on Saturday during the final training of the the Dutch in Portugal. The defender left the training field with a groin injury, reports the NOS. Images from the broadcaster show that De Ligt points to his groin in conversation with Edwin Goedhart of the medical staff, but the seriousness of the injury is not known.

Frank de Boer indicated after training that De Ligt did not want to take any risks, because his groin was already bothering him on Friday. With a view to Sunday’s exhibition game against Georgia, the the Dutch squad will exercise caution. Earlier this week, De Ligt also left training early, although he did return to the field to do individual exercises.

De Ligt played ninety minutes in the exhibition game against Scotland (2-2) on Wednesday. Sunday will show whether he can also play against Georgia. That match may also herald the return of Daley Blind: the defender is on his way back after an ankle injury. Furthermore, De Boer has a fit selection in the run-up to the ‘goodbye match’.
