Matthijs de Ligt trained with the rest of the the Dutch selection for the first time on Tuesday. The 21-year-old center defender is recovering from a groin injury and was therefore in the stands during the exhibition game against Georgia (3-0 win) on Sunday. De Ligt now seems to be on his way back.

On Saturday, De Ligt dropped out of group training with apparent groin complaints. On Monday he trained individually together with Donny van de Beek, who has now definitively dropped out for the European championship. De Ligt rejoined the group at the start of training on Tuesday. He lasted at least a quarter of an hour. Because the rest of the training was decided, it is not clear whether the Juventus defender remained with the selection after that.

De Ligt has five days to get match fit for the opening of the European Championship. On Sunday at 9 p.m., the the Dutch squad will kick off against Ukraine in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. In addition to Van de Beek, national coach Frank de Boer previously crossed out the names of Hans Hateboer (foot injury) and Jasper Cillessen (corona infection).
