Latest update:

Feyenoord and Brighton & Hove Albion have reached a verbal agreement for midfielder Mats Wieffer, reports The Telegraph Thursday afternoon. The Rotterdammers reportedly receive a fixed transfer fee of 30 million euros for the Oranje international. That amount can still increase considerably through bonuses. Fabrizio Romano reports Thursday evening that Wieffer is on his way to Brighton by plane to complete the deal.

According to Romano, Feyenoord and Brighton have reached an agreement on a transfer fee of thirty million euros. That amount can increase further due to various bonuses. Wieffer will now do everything he can to quickly complete the multi-million transfer.

The Telegraph also comes with a striking detail. Arne Slot is also in the market for the 24-year-old midfielder with his Liverpool. According to journalist Marcel van der Kraan, the interest of the Reds but too late. Brighton and Feyenoord have already reached an agreement in principle about the controller.

The expectation is that Feyenoord will make more than the fixed amount of 30 million euros from Wieffer. “Those bonuses, worth several millions, will be easy to get if the player does well in sports at the English club on the coast just below London.”

According to Van der Kraan, the ball is now in the Tukker's court. “Wieffer himself is now busy talking to the management of Brighton, although he has not yet received a written agreement.” Feyenoord director Dennis te Kloese is said to be in England at the moment to complete Wieffer's transfer.

Wieffer is still contracted at De Kuip until mid-2027, but Brighton will buy out his contract. In doing so, the international will break the transfer record of former teammate and friend Orkun Kökçü (for 25 million euros to Benfica). Feyenoord took over Wieffer in the summer of 2022 for just 750,000 euros from fellow city rivals Excelsior. He will soon leave De Kuip for a club record.

Wieffer had to get used to the level in his first six months after his transfer to Feyenoord, but played himself into Arne Slot's starting eleven for good halfway through the 2022/23 season. With the Rotterdammers, Wieffer managed to win a national title for the first time in his career in May 2023. A year later he won the TOTO KNVB Cup.

On behalf of Feyenoord, the counter now stands at 79 official appearances, in which he was good for 9 goals and 11 assists. In the past season, Wieffer was perhaps the absolute strongman in an excellently performing Feyenoord.
