The relegation battle between Excelsior and RKC Waalwijk did not produce a winner on Saturday evening. The visitors had the better of the game after ninety minutes, but needed a nice goal from Mats Seuntjes to save a point. Siebe Horemans scored on behalf of Excelsior.

After almost fifteen minutes of play, the home team had a huge opportunity. Excelsior striker Derensili Sanches Fernandes saw his attempt cleared off the line just in time by Shawn Adewoye. Soon afterwards, RKC also had a good opportunity, but David Min failed to pass Stijn van Gassel.

After half an hour it was Excelsior that took the lead. After a deflected corner from the Kralingers, the ball was reintroduced to Couhaib Driouech, after which Horemans was released by the RKC defense and was able to head in: 1-0.

The visitors were indeed threatening a number of times in the first half, but RKC lacked a successful final pass and conviction in the finish. After 45 messy minutes, the teams went into halftime with a 1-0 score.

The play in the second act did not differ much from that before the tea break. RKC was looking for an equalizer and Excelsior seemed unable to bring much offensively.

Fifteen minutes before the end, RKC made the right 1-1 and it was a beauty. Substitute Seuntjens, who made his first minutes in a month and a half, took a nice action from about twenty meters and shot wonderfully.

After the equalizer, Excelsior came out of its shell somewhat and the match again had two teams chasing a goal. Substitute Mike van Duinen, among others, created danger, but there were no more goals. Both relegation candidates therefore had to settle for one point, which brings them both to 22 points from 26 matches.
