Marciano Vink calls on everyone to enjoy Xavi Simons for a while. The analyst of ESPN hopes that the nineteen-year-old playmaker can be admired in PSV’s shirt for another season, but expects that he will take a step. In that context, Vink comes up with a list of clubs that he thinks would fit Simons well.

After a very difficult first hour, PSV still managed to beat Excelsior (4-0) on Saturday evening and, as is often the case this season, Simons was the driving force. The international of the Dutch, who plays as number 10, scored and also provided a masterful assist to Fábio Silva with the outside on the right. Vink enjoyed it to the fullest. “It is so good that he still performs so well with all eyes on him,” it sounds during The Tribune. “Simons has been able to do this for 28 league games plus all European matches. Of course he was sometimes less, but in general he achieves a very high level.”

According to Vink, there is no doubt that Simons is the best player at PSV. “He radiates a lot of fun and just keeps going. I was jokingly wondering if you can outgrow the Eredivisie within a year, but Simons proves it from the start and is decisive at PSV. I hope he stays after this season. If he were to go to Chelsea or return to Paris Saint-Germain, he would get much less playing time and his development would stagnate. Then you better go to a modest club in the Champions League where you can still be the man.”

The analyst and former midfielder, who was himself under contract with PSV between 1994 and 1999, also gives examples of an ideal step for Simons. “Couldn’t a club like Benfica be a next step for him? Napoli, or Borussia Dortmund? He can be challenged there again. Just look at Noni Madueke. That was such a great talent at PSV and when he left he spoke everyone about a big loss for PSV. But then he chooses Chelsea, and it’s nothing. Simons is best off going somewhere where he doesn’t have to deal with 34 competing players.”
