If Frank Arnesen does not extend his contract with Feyenoord, Marcel Brands is Feyenoord Transfermarkt the leading candidate to succeed him as technical director. Arnesen’s contract in De Kuip will expire next summer and for the time being, both parties have not yet discussed a longer collaboration. It is the intention that Arnesen and Feyenoord will enter into talks after the winter break.

As a result, Feyenoord now seems to be taking into account a scenario in which Arnesen will not extend his contract. Brands recently left Everton with immediate effect, where he worked as a director of football. “This decision has taken some time and consideration and was one of the most difficult I have encountered in my career. The board and I agree that there is a clear difference in the vision and direction of this great club and this decision has been made with that in mind,” Brands said in a statement on Everton’s website.

Brands may therefore be able to get back to work soon, because he is the most important candidate at Feyenoord in case Arnesen does not extend his expiring contract. In early October, it reported General Newspaper that both Arnesen and Feyenoord wanted to extend their current contract until mid-2022. “That’s not the case yet, but I’m having a great time,” Arnesen said a few days later at ESPN. “We will look at it in the coming period. We have not had any conversations yet, but it all feels very positive. I feel good and Feyenoord is a great club.”

For the time being, however, there has been no discussion between Feyenoord and Arnesen about a longer relationship. “He only wants to talk about it during the winter break,” said Martijn Krabbendam, Feyenoord watcher on behalf of Football International, last week in the Dick Formekaar Podcast. “He’s having a good time and wants to continue. I do not know. He is also waiting to see what Te Kloese (the new general manager, ed.) will do. He’s like general manager often involved in football affairs. They may need to have another conversation. Normally there is no reason not to continue with him.”
