Latest update:

Marc Overmars has decided not to appeal further against the penalty imposed by the Dutch Football Association. The former technical director's appeal had previously been rejected. Overmars could still go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS), but has decided not to, his spokesperson Frank Neervoort is quoted by The Telegraph.

Overmars is therefore forced to resign from his duties at Royal Antwerp until mid-November. “Marc, in consultation with his family, has made the decision not to initiate any further proceedings,” says Neervoort.

“We are not going to provide any further explanation. Marc is currently also about to go on holiday.” The Institute for Sports Jurisprudence (ISR) had imposed a two-year suspension on Overmars on November 16, of which one year was conditional, due to his transgressive behavior during his time at Ajax.

At that time, Overmars was able to continue working in Belgium, but when FIFA took over the punishment imposed by the ISR, the former footballer had to immediately resign his duties at Antwerp.

Overmars therefore decided to appeal against that sanction, but in vain, as it turned out at the beginning of February. The director has now chosen not to go to the TAS, but to accept his suspension.

This means that he is not allowed to work at Royal Antwerp until November. The Great Old will therefore have to make do without its technical director in the summer transfer window.

The director of football affairs left Ajax completely unexpectedly at the beginning of February 2022 when the news about his inappropriate behavior became known. Overmars has been working for Royal Antwerp since the summer of 2022.
