Ajax has been explicitly associated with a return of Davy Klaassen for a few days now. However, the team from Amsterdam seem to have to speed up the negotiations, as Werder Bremen has reportedly imposed an ultimatum on Ajax. The Bundesliga club wants an outline agreement on the table on Thursday and will otherwise choose the plug from the talks.

The transfer period will not close until next Monday, but Werder wants to say DeichStube have enough time to get another replacement for Klaassen. According to the fansite, there is an urgent bid for director of football affairs Marc Overmars, whose first bid can count on little appreciation in Bremen. Ajax would have offered well under 10 million euros, while Werder two years ago set the record amount of 13.5 million to take over Klaassen from Everton.

With an ongoing contract until 2022, there is little motivation for Werder to sell him for a lower amount. The club is hit hard by the corona crisis and could well use the millions that Klaassen can bring in. DeichStube emphasizes, however, that the survival of the club does not depend on the sale of Klaassen, which means that Werder can afford to sit high in the tree.

If Ajax Klaassen indeed wants to bring this transfer period back to Amsterdam, it will have to go a step further. On Wednesday or Thursday, Sean Klaiber will be presented as a new addition: the FC Utrecht defender has now personally agreed with Ajax on a four-year contract and will undergo the medical examination on Wednesday afternoon.
