Manchester United defend the decision to travel by plane to the away game against Leicester City on Saturday. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s selection plays at 4 p.m. in Leicester, which is only 120 kilometers away as the crow flies. Yet Manchester United chose to take the plane.

The top club from England emphasizes to the BBC that after reports of an alleged traffic jam on the M6, it was finally decided to take the plane. The Mancunians remain “a strong supporter of clean energy” and point out that a partnership with Renewable Energy Group was signed in July.

Short flights cause relatively more pollution because of the higher emissions during landing, take-off and taxiing. A plane trip is seven to eleven times more harmful to the environment than the same route by train and two to four times more than a car trip.

Manchester United started the Premier League season well with thirteen points from their first five matches, but Solskjaer’s team has missed expensive points in recent weeks. The home game with Aston Villa was lost 0-1 and a week later Everton had a point left over from the visit to Old Trafford: 1-1.
