Latest update:

Manager Erik ten Hag's contract at Manchester United has been reopened and extended for a season, according to reports the Red Devils world via official channels. Ten Hag's contract extension had been in the air for a while, but the much-discussed coach from Haaksbergen will definitely stay at Old Trafford after the announcement.

By signing, Ten Hag is now committed to Manchester United until mid-2026. He gave a brief response to his stay on the club website. “I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with Manchester United to continue our collaboration. Looking back over the past two years, we can proudly look back on two trophies and many examples of progress. However, the project is not yet finished.”

Ten Hag has two seasons under his belt as manager of Manchester United. He finished his first season with a third place in the Premier League, which brought back Champions League football to Old Trafford. In addition, the EFL Cup was won for the first time in six years. However, Manchester City was too strong in the FA Cup final with a 2-1 win.

Last season was a lot more difficult for Ten Hag. The Manchester United squad was plagued by injuries and there were fears for his job because of the eighth place in the Premier League. The criticism died down somewhat after the surprising win of the FA Cup. In the final, top favorite Manchester City was defeated 1-2.

Dismissal was in the air

Stories surfaced in the British media about Ten Hag's end at Man United, even though he had won the FA Cup. Including quality newspaper The Guardian made a blunder with that reporting. A few weeks later, The Athletic However, it was reported that the Dutchman was allowed to stay with the Manchester powerhouse.

New technical staff

Sporting director Dan Ashworth also has his say on the Manchester United club website. “With two trophies in the last two seasons, Erik has cemented his reputation as one of the most consistently successful coaches in European football,” he says in praise.

Ashworth indicates that several areas for improvement were identified during the evaluation of the past season, but is confident that Ten Hag can implement these through his expanded technical staff. “With our reinforced technical staff, we look forward to working hand in hand with Erik and realizing our shared ambitions for Manchester United.” Ruud van Nistelrooy and René Hake will almost certainly support Ten Hag in Manchester.
