MANCHESTER City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne won the Players’ Player of the Year award on Tuesday.

De Bruyne, 29, especially praised his City manager Pep Guardiola for his coach helping him earn the ‘honor’.

He believes that Guardiola allows him to “be himself” on the field.

The Belgian is the first Manchester City player to win the award since it was launched at the end of the 1973-74 season.

“It’s a great honor,” said De Bryune, “to be voted on by your colleagues, participants from other teams you always play on the field.

“That they vote for you for the best player; it’s incredible.

“It may be strange that I am the first player from City to win it, as there is so much good talent over the years and currently at the club. But it feels good to represent the club. I also have to give credit to my coach who gives me the freedom to express myself, “says the redhead.

Beth England, 26, won the women’s award after helping Chelsea win the Women’s Super League and League Cup.
