Manchester United is close to the arrival of Alex Telles, various media from England assure Monday. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s club has been in talks with FC Porto for some time about a transfer from the Brazilian left back to Old Trafford and hopes to finalize the deal this week.

United has been looking for a competitor for Luke Shaw for some time now. The latter is in his seventh season in the service of the Red Devils, but was regularly plagued by injuries in recent years and even fit was not always uncontroversial. Telles has performed well at FC Porto for the past three seasons and is now the main candidate to strengthen the left back position at United. The English top club had initially set its sights on the arrival of Sergio Reguilón, but he eventually chose to leave Real Madrid for Tottenham Hotspur last week.

Due to a transfer clause in his contract, Telles can be collected for 40 million euros from FC Porto, but among others The Guardian expects that a transfer fee of 25 million euros will be enough for United to snare the 27-year-old Brazilian. In addition, a weekly salary of about 80,000 euros per week beckons for Telles, it sounds.

Telles, who broke through at Grêmio in his own country and then was under contract in Europe with Galatasaray and Internazionale, made more impression last season with his goal to score. In 49 official games, he scored 13 goals (nine penalties). In addition, the fullback managed to score 12 assists.

Telles would be United’s third reinforcement this summer. Earlier this month, the superpower picked up Donny van de Beek for up to 45 million euros from Ajax, while goalkeeper Dean Henderson returned from a two-year rental period at Sheffield United. The Solskjaer team started the new Premier League season disappointingly last weekend: at home, they lost 1-3 to Crystal Palace.
