Manchester United are still keeping a close eye on Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba. The Bayer Leverkusen duo was already on a wish list last summer and according to Manchester Evening News it is not unthinkable that the Red Devils will be knocking on your door again in Germany this summer.

“Manchester United is keeping a close eye on the Leverkusen duo worth 100 million pounds (117 million euros),” headlines Samuel Luckhurst of the regional newspaper.

“Manchester United wants two defensive boosts in the summer and Tapsoba and Frimpong were already on the radar last year.” The English superpower continues to monitor the performance of the pair.

Tapsoba and Frimpong are currently making a big impression at Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso's football machine is still undefeated. The team has not lost for 31 (!) games.

There were only four draws. A three-pointer was collected 27 times. These bizarre statistics have not gone unnoticed by Manchester United. Last weekend, Tapsoba kicked off against Bayern Munich, while substitute Frimpong scored the 3-0 in the final minutes.

Frimpong was also explicitly linked with a switch to the English last summer. The sudden resurrection of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the contract extension of Diogo Dalot then thwarted a transfer, as Luckhurst reconstructs.

However, Wan-Bissaka's contract expires next season, making it likely that he will leave in the summer. Frimpong, who is still in Leverkusen until mid-2028, should become his replacement.

Moreover, signing a centre-back is the biggest priority for Manchester United this summer. “United wants to attract a young and athletic central defender,” says Luckhurst.

The 25-year-old Tapsoba would fit that profile. A departure of thirty-year-olds Harry Maguire and Raphaël Varane cannot be ruled out, while Victor Lindelöf (29) and Johnny Evans (36) are also far from assured of a longer stay at Old Trafford.
